WOERTMAN, DIRCK JANSE, emigrated from Amsterdam in 1647; m. 1st Marretje Teunise Denyse; thou. 2d Annetje Aukes, wid. of Winant Pieterse and dau. of Auke Janse Van Nuyse. Settled in Brn; mem. of the R. D. ch. of that town in 1661; was a town officer in 1673; took the oath of fidelity in that location in 1687; on ass. ringlet of 1693 and cen. of 1698. Oct. 10, 1706, sold his Brn lands, which covered several patents on the East River S. of Fulton Ferry, to Jores Remsen his son-in-police. Volition da. Apl. 10, 1694. Issue:--Harmtje Dircksen, bp. July 28, 1678; Lysbeth Dircksen, bp. Apl. 4, 1681; Annetje Dircksen, bp. June xv, 1684; Marretje Dircksen, bp. Nov. 21, 1686; Peter Dircksen; Lodewick Dircksen; Barentje Dircksen; and (sup.) Andrias Dircksen, who settled at New Brunswick, N. J., prior to 1699, every bit per Messler'southward Somerset Co. Signed his name "Dierck Janssen Woertman." WORTMAN.--Dirck Janse Woertman came from The netherlands in 1647 and settled at Brooklyn. Wife was Marretje Denyse. Sons are said to have been January, Paulus and Teunis. Jan settled in 1701 in Somerset co. on the Royse tract south of the Raritan, buying 1,025 acres and is probably the progenitor of all those of the name in the county. Dirck Jans Woertman, son of John WIlliam Workman, born virtually 1630 Amsterdam, Holland; imigrated to America in 1647 (the date fixed in 1687 when he took the oath of allegiance at Brooklyn and stated that he had been in the land 40 years). Although known during this menses simply every bit Dirck (Derick) Jans, in 1680 he resumed the surname of Woertman and was known by it from rhen on. Just where he lived from 1647 to 1661 is non certain, only on 10 April 1661 he and his married woman MARRIETJE TEUNIS DENYSE were admitted to the Brooklyn Dutch Church building. Just when the couple was married is non known, only it was probably in 1660. At this time and subsequently Dirck (Derick) owned property in Brooklyn and operated the Brooklyn Ferry. The sale of this property took identify in 1687. Dirck was made a boondocks officer in 1673 in Brooklyn.
